Fall - as Above So Below with Apple. Symbolism - I've been asked about this in these paintings. Here are my thoughts: The saying "as above, so below" is an ancient quote that means what happens in a higher realm also occurs in a lower realm. It's often attributed to the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, an ancient document that influenced Renaissance and Enlightenment philosophies. The apple with a bite in it is eating the forbidden fruit. To know more than ignorance (higher consciousness) might be seen as the forbidden fruit. I believe it is our reason for being, but there is a price for that - no longer in the garden of innocence. Knowledge doesn't equal happiness; it is knowing the shades of light and the difference between them and dark. (Click Painting to View)
