In 1979, I was hiking by myself on the Tillamook Trail on the North Oregon Coast. It was late afternoon, the last hour of light left on this early March Day. I had hiked this trail many times before this day. I was returning to Seaside, and a light caught my eye on the trail. It looked like a path where there was no path. The setting sun beamed through the cedar tree canopy just right. I decided to explore this hidden path. I was in a different frame of mind and was in no hurry. This painting and series are about this experience. It was a spiritual experience that I've never forgotten. The first series of these paintings were sold in the mid-1980s. Here is my first painting (above) captured from a film slide. New paintings are below.
